"It is a great mitzvah upon children to endeavor with all their resources and soul to perform a favor for the fathers and mothers, and bring them to Eretz Yisrael, for this honor is greater than thousands of gold and silver [pieces]."
(The Pele Yoeitz)
Those who wish to be buried in Eretz Yisrael turn to Shomrei Hachomos Chapels. They know that when the time comes they can depend on us to carry out their final directive in accordance with the highest halachic standards and treat their grieving families with sensitivity and understanding throughout the entire funeral, transport and burial process.
Shomrei Hachomos Chapels deals directly with our contacts in Eretz Yisroel that have access to the industry's grave ownership archives. This allows grieving families to smoothly and accurately locate plots in any cemetery in Israel.
Shomrei Hachomos Chapels is also the place to call to make arrangements for a brief funeral service in Brooklyn, if you wish, and then arrange for transportation to Eretz Yisrael for immediate burial. We also arrange for cemetery plots at all Bais Hakvaros in Eretz Yisrael. Our name has become synonymous with being the most economical rates in the industry.
We find throughout the ages, beginning with Yaakov Avinu and Yosef, continuing through with the Amoraim and until present times, great tzaddikim who died outside of Eretz Yisrael were brought into the land for burial. In fact, although exhuming the niftar to bury them elsewhere is generally prohibited, one may do so where the descendants wish to re-inter their loved ones in Eretz Yisrael (please consult a rabbinic authority). Further, some poskim write that it is a mitzvah for a child to make arrangements for a parent to be buried in Eretz Yisrael, unless the parent specifically instructed against burial in Eretz Yisrael.
Often when one is buried in Eretz Yisrael, family members cannot afford to visit the grave site. Since it is beneficial for the niftar when people come to visit, some rabbinic authorities had advised in the past against burial in Eretz Yisrael. Nowadays, however, air travel has become more affordable, and burial in Eretz Yisrael has become a preferred option.
